Hatha Yoga

Hatha is the term for yoga classes that offer physical exercises known as asanas or poses.  Appropriate for beginning* as well as experienced practitioners because of the variations and detailed instruction offered.  *No yoga experience required.

· Class begins with an opportunity for You to focus inward.

· Attention is given to Your breath throughout the class.

· Your comfort and stability are considered as You practice movement of major joints (ankles, knees, hips and shoulders), extension and flexion of spine, twists, inversions and balancing.

· Proper alignment and moving mindfully is encouraged so you will be aware of how your body, and perhaps how your mind, responds to each action.

· You are encouraged to safely challenge Yourself as much or as little as You wish.  There is no competition in this class - with others or yourself - it is a practice of noticing how You feel in this moment on this day in this pose.
Your comfort is paramount when You Breathe Your Yoga.

· Class finishes with guided relaxation (savasana).

Meditation Class

· For meditation class it is not required to change into yoga clothes—you may come as you are.

· Start with a few simple asanas to release resistance and tension in the body, if necessary.

· A comfortable seated posture is assumed, using blankets or a chair, if that is more comfortable for you.

· Guided breathing exercises (pranayama) progress into guided and/or silent meditations.

Meditation Workshop

A 2.5 hour, single class Meditation Workshop, offers discourse, discussion, breathing exercises, guided relaxation and practical experience in several meditation techniques.  Handouts are provided at this workshop.

Vinyasa Yoga

Vinyasa means to coordinate or synchronize body movements with the breath, and hatha classes encourage this.  Classes labeled Vinyasa or Flow tend to move more quickly than Hatha Yoga classes.  Vinyasa class may be paced with perhaps time for only one breath before moving to the next pose in some instances.  It is advisable (but not required) that one is familiar with some basic Hatha Yoga asanas before attending a Vinyasa class.

This is a luxury we need to treat ourselves to more often.  Classes are a full hour of a meditative guided relaxation.  Yoga nidra is a yogic ‘sleep’ in which you remain aware as you relax the entire body.

· Class may begin with a few simple tension releasing asanas.

· Support of blankets, bolsters and pillows are used to allow the body to become completely comfortable.

· Breathing techniques are offered to begin complete relaxation of mind and body.

· Guided relaxations and visualizations are presented, encouraging release of what you no longer need.

Note:  All Kathy's yoga classes conclude with a savasana that includes about 10 minutes of guided relaxation similar to a yoga nidra experience.

Reiki — the positive, limitless, universal life energy available to everyone

Reiki (Ray’-key) is a natural force, promoting health and healing on all levels:  physical, breath, emotional, mental, intuitive and spiritual.  It nourishes all the cells and organs in our bodies.  This energy flow is affected by both positive and negative thoughts and feelings we may have.

· Offered one-on-one in a peaceful setting.

· Sessions can be 10 minutes, or up to a full hour.

· Practitioner works with recipient fully clothed in a chair or a comfortably reclined position.

· Reiki practice nurtures a healthier, more positive energy flow.

Note:  Hatha yoga is designed to assist a balanced flow of energy through the physical body as well as the chakras, promoting a peaceful state of well-being. Chakras are non-physical energy centers – the seven major chakras correlate to these areas of the spine in a body:  the tailbone, sacrum, solar plexus, heart, throat, third eye and crown of the head.  I find that Reiki practice perfectly compliments this aspect of yoga.
